Catch a train from Birmingham New Street to the University stop. Turn left out the station and you will see this colossus in the distance
It is Faraday sitting in a chair by Sir Eduardo Paolozzi. (I’ve mentioned him already today) Half man, half machine, Paolozzi captures the essence of science and technology.
Dedicated to University of Birmingham to mark the centenary of their Royal Charter by the artist, around the base is part of TS Eliot’s The Four Quartets which evokes a sense of what the university experience is about.
Fare forward, you who think that you are voyaging;
You are not those who saw the harbour
Receding, or those who will disembark.
Here between the hither and the farther shore
While time is withdrawn, consider the future
And the past with an equal mind.
