Botticelli and the cheeky devils

Went to the Courtauld Gallery yesterday to take a look at the pen drawings of Botticelli for Dante’s Inferno.

The two rooms were packed with little gems of delicate drawings that, for done, a magnifying glass was required!

The stories being told here were brilliantly executed. Getting up close to the devils in hell was incredible – Botticelli gave some of the cheekiest expressions to the minions of Lucifer, who was depicted at a three headed muncher of the wicked.

Seeing some of the punishments brought Dante’s words to life. A very enjoyable exhibition.
